Metal Organic Frameworks - Tetraphenyl derivatives of group XIV elements

Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) are a relatively new breed of materials which have widespread potential applications including catalysis, sequestration, separation technologies and molecular recognition. Tetraphenyl derivatives of group XIV elements have a tetrahedral molecular structure that makes them ideal for consideration as supramolecular constructs. The ability to vary both the central atom and the phenyl functionality provides a high degree of flexibility in the physical properties of the eventual highly porous material, making them ideal for being incorporated into MOFs and COFs.
