Some Recent Highlights in Rare Earth Chemistry

Date: Thursday, 12 November
Time: 12:00 PM
Venue: LAW G23
Speaker: Prof. Peter Junk
School of Chemistry Monash University

Abstract

Metal-organic chemistry of the rare earths has enjoyed remarkable success in recent years, and the isolation of exciting complexes involving low coordinate species, unusual oxidation states, exceptional reactivity including catalysis, and new synthetic approaches has ensured that this chemistry has stayed at the forefront of inorganic research. In this presentation, new results involving low oxidation state chemistry (Ln(II), see our new Nd2+ in Fig. 1), direct syntheses from the lanthanoid metal, and reactivity of lanthanoid complexes will be presented.
