RACI NATURAL PRODUCTS GROUP

The Natural Products Group consists members of the RACI who have a broad interest in natural products chemistry. Our members come from academia, government laboratories and industry.  To date, the Group is centred in NSW and most of our meetings are in the Sydney area though links are maintained with natural products chemists from all around Australia.

Members hav a wide range of interests including extraction and analysis,synthesis and structure elucidation, bioactivity, ecology, molecualar modelling, pharmaceutical and industrial applications.

The group holds approximately four or five meetings per year at which there is an invited speaker who also joins us for dinner afterwards. This provides ample opportunity for discussion, eating and drinking with like minded colleagues.

Every year we hold the Natural Products One Day Symposium. This provides an opportunity to hear about local, national and international research in natural products.  As well as guest speakers of high repute, there are papers and posters presented by natural products chemists from a variety of professions. As this is a very non-threatening and understanding group with diverse research interests, this symposium is an ideal venue for research students to present their results and ideas.  Students are exempt from registration fees if they present a paper or poster and there are cash prizes for student presentations!  

The Natural Products Group is also a focus group for the discussion of national and international legislation regarding collection of flora and fauna and property rights associated with that material and any subsequent discoveries.
