School of Chemistry Postgraduate Teaching FellowshipsScholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and teaching attributes/potential. The following procedures will apply: (a) Up to four new (4) Postgraduate Teaching Fellowships (PTFs) will be offered in any one year to all full time postgraduate students enrolled in a postgraduate program in the School of Chemistry. (b) Applications for awards will be considered twice per year, in February and in June, by a panel comprising the Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies, the Director of First Year Studies, the Director of Teaching, and the Director of Research, and recommendations for awards made to the Head of School. (c) Applications must be received in writing and include a curriculum vitae and academic transcript, with evidence of previous teaching and research experience, and a statement of the candidate's teaching philosophy. (d) PTFs will be awarded for a period of up to 3 years, subject to satisfactory performance and provision of an annual written report of activities. (e) PTFs will have a value of up to $5,000 per annum, calculated on a pro rata basis, with the condition that holders be expected to contribute the equivalent of a minimum of 42 hours of structured teaching per 14 week session, twice per year, plus additional teaching activities decided by the Director of Teaching, to a maximum of 100 hours per annum. Teaching may comprise laboratory demonstrations, tutorials, or participation in science and career marketing fairs, Science Week and Chemistry Week activities, Talented Student programs or other chemistry marketing/mentoring activities.
