Graduate Study in Chemistry

This part of the Chemistry web site provides comprehensive and up-to-date information for current and future graduate students. Students can make direct contact with the School via the Director of Graduate Studies. The School of Chemistry at UNSW has about fifty graduate students from Australia and many other countries.

The School welcomes applications for entry into Honours, Grad.Cert. and Grad.Dip., from students who have completed or are completing 3-year degrees at other institutions. Honours Program details are available in the undergraduate study section of this site. See below for details of the new profession-orientated Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma programs.

The School of Chemistry at UNSW is widely regarded as one of the best centres for chemical research and training in Australia. Its graduate programs lead to respected qualifications and provide the opportunity to work and learn alongside researchers and educators of high standing. In addition to modern spectroscopic and analytical equipment the School has full access to the University's modern research infrastructure.

Research and Coursework Graduate programs are offered by the School:

  • Ph.D. - Research program (3-4 years full-time study)
  • M.Sc. - Research program (2 years full-time study)
  • M. Sci.Tech. Chemical Analysis and Laboratory Management (CALM) - Coursework program. Also available as Grad. Dip. and Grad. Cert.
  • Grad. Dip. - Graduate Diploma in Chemistry (Research) - A coursework program as an entry to research.

A wide range of Scholarships is available to local and international students. Scholarships are offered under the APA, APA(I), ARC, IPRS and AusAID schemes. In addition to these the School offers living allowances and teaching scholarships. Descriptions of these schemes, eligibility and application procedures are provided in these pages.
